Do I need to reserve a seat?

All members are entitled to a place at each monthly meeting. For meetings where we are selling visitors tickets we do kindly ask that members who will not be able to attend please let us know so that we can offer your seat to a visitor. All ticket sales help ensure that Bailgate WI will be able to continue into the future, so helping us fundraise in this way is greatly appreciated.

Is parking available at the church?

Yes, the Methodist Church has limited on site parking (approx 20 spaces) but other groups do meet on site at the same time as we do, so if you are able to travel by foot or public transport, please do. For drivers, the entrance to the car park is the second left when entering Bailgate from Newport arch.

I will be early for the meeting, can I come in?

For our monthly meetings we kindly ask that you wait before entering, as this ensures that the committee can get everything set up and ready for your arrival at 7.15pm. We appreciate that everyone wants to do their bit, so if you will regularly be early, and wish to assist, please speak to a committee member about taking on a helper role.

I’m a visitor, what do I do?

Thank you for choosing to visit us! Visitors are able to come along to a maximum of 3 meetings per year.

Where the meeting’s speaker or activity does not incur a cost to us, your first visit will be free, if however the meeting’s activity does cost us money we will ask for a donation to our coffers (suggested £5) for the first visit. Second and third visits also cost £5.

When you arrive our greeters will take your information and direct you to our treasurer who will take your payment. If you choose to join on the night you will receive a £5 discount on your membership.

Do I need to bring money to meetings?

There is no obligation to buy anything when you come to our meetings if you’re already a member.

We do have a number of ways that we raise funds as a WI (for more information about why we need to raise funds beyond membership fees as a WI, click here) Our refreshments, raffle, bring and buy table, merch etc all help us stay sustainable for the future.

If you do choose to help us fundraise, we accept payment by card or cash at meetings, and you can pay for things online in advance if you would like too.

Do you have vegetarian, vegan, or other special dietary options?

We endeavour to supply a range of refreshments for all dietary requirements, but this is dependant on what is supplied by the kind cake rota volunteers.

Our committee includes dairy free, gluten free and vegan members, so we always try to have something on hand for these dietary needs, but please be aware that as the majority of our refreshments are homemade we cannot always guarantee that foods will be completely free of allergens.

Can I bring my own refreshments?

If you’d like to supply refreshments, we operate a cake rota throughout the year to make sure that all our members have something to enjoy every visit.

To sign up for the cake rota, please either add yourself to the rota at the next meeting (on the noticeboard) or click here to email us.
